Kids Battling Cancer and their Siblings Get Outfitted with Hockey Equipment

The NHL Player's Association Goals and Dreams Foundation has granted Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC) with a bursary to supply new  hockey equipment for the 2014 season for diagnosed children and their siblings. Through one amazing man- Derek MacKenzie and Skater’s Edge Source for Sports in Sudbury, this was all made possible. Skater's Edge SFS was honored to be selected as the exclusive retailer for this great cause. In addition, the staff at Skater’s Edge SFS enjoyed meeting every player one on one and spent time assessing their individual needs. Derek MacKenzie is a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL) and former standout out for the Sudbury Wolves (OHL). Mackenzie holds a golf tournament in Sudbury, Ontario every summer to support NOFCC. The Hats for Heroes Tournament has raised $50,000 for NOFCC in 3 years. This year’s tournament is scheduled for July 3, 2014, and is already sold out.

NOFCC is a Canadian registered charity which is not government or hospital funded, and relies solely on community fundraising and public donations in order to assist approximately 140 families in Northern Ontario with the costs of having to travel for pediatric cancer treatment across Ontario. The charity offers a total of 14 programs, such as financial support and reimbursement programs, palliative support services, tutoring, bursaries, and support groups to families battling childhood cancer.
